HEALTH EXPO 2007

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

As everyone knows, yesterday was a special day for our AMEP students because a great event-Health Expo was open at our campus. This year Health Expo was still held by Student Association, and this activity not only introduced some kinds of health life style, but also aim to raise some money for the Paralympian.
Our AMEP teachers and students made a great assisting for its success. From Marion's blog, we know as AMEP teachers, Marion and Sally did lots of work for preparing and arrangement, such as, although Marion couldn't be school, but she tried to make such great and wonderful prizes from her husband; And Sally also did lots of we knew or not know work before and during the Health Expo.

And also our AMEP students did very well. Some students sold the raffle tickets, some sold the healthy and delicious food that we cooked by ourselves, etc. For instance, our class, Tina cooked Chinese Pancake, Yang did the vegetable salad, Stojan brought some yummy foods which his wife cooked, Ghasaq cooked Pasta, Emy prepared some Sushi, I cooked some Chinese Fried Rice, and Jone brought some cookies, etc... Vicky helped Lizbeth sold the card for buying food, and sometimes Fiona, Nancy and I took some photos ...... We helped each other and enjoyed the time we could do some small things for others who would need. But we still felt if Marion could be with us that would be perfect!

We hope we could raise more money for Paralympains this year!

Thin Model

Questions:
-What triggered the ban?
One of Uruguayan Young skinny models who died of heart failure during a fashion show which held in South Afraid. She was only 22 years old when she was dead, and in order to pursuit her model career more successful, she almost did eat nothing except some soda for three weeks.
-What's BMI?
BMI is short for Body Mass Index. It is used to estimate your total amount of body fat and normally it's designed for adult(over 18 years old).

-What BMI should a model have to be allowed to participate in fashion parades in Spain?

The BMI index should be over 18.

-What's the average height, weight and BMI of a runway model?
The average runway model is estimated to be 5 feet 9 inches tall and to weigh in at 110 lbs. and a BMI index is 16.
-What are the arguments for and against?
The arguments are for trying to stop more skinny & feeble fashion models appearing on the fashion shows. More and more skinny models and young women are starving themselves in order to make them look extremely skinny. They think the less fat in their body, the more beautiful they are, especially for some young fashion models who desperately want to be more successful in their careers. So most of them are unhealthy & feeble, and disorder in eating, some people already lost their young lives for that. So the Organisers of Spain's top annual fashion baned the models if whose BMI below 18.
But someone against this ban. Some skinny models think they are thin because they are natural thin.

-Check the meanings of gaunt, emaciated and wan. You can find many dictionaries on the Internet (just write dictionary into Google). One of them is the Merrian-Webster

gaunt: excessively thin and angular ;

emaciated: very thin and feeble;

wan: suggestive of poor health or lacking vitality

-How can you calculate someone's BMI?

Dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared(m2).

My opinion
In my view, this is a very good action for calling for more healthy fashion models on fashion shows. I do think that the skinny models not only are not beautiful indeed, but also very unhealthy. They are going too far away for losting their weight.

Definately, I completely agree with the fashion models should have a reasonable weight according to their height. You see, these models especially for some well-known models, such as Kate Moss, they are the public celebrity, their images could make a strong impact on young women and teenages. If these skinny models are chronic suffering from disorder eating in order to keep their weight lower and lower, one side, their body and health must be seiciously damaged; the other side, some of their fans would follow their ideals unhealthy life style. That would be terrible.

I hope that more and more fashion show organisers around the world should take the same action to ban too thin models to appeare on the fashion show, and calling for more healthy looking, more reasonable weight fashion models to be on the show. I supposed that this action should be taken in some eariler time, but it is good to see more and more people in the fashion industry are aware of banning too thin models on the fashion shows it is a very necessary and important thing. The organiser of Spain Fashion Show did a really good first step for that.

Hot chips cause cancer and Take-away food dangerous

Hot Chips Cause Cancer
Some of scientists around world have studied the French Fried , and pointed out there is a very dangerous chemical substance-acrylamide in the Hot Chips.

This chemical is commonly used in plastics and dyes, the scientists supposed this dangerous substance in the hot chips during the cooking process.

Take-away Food dangerous
Some reserch from Japanese university found that the monosodium glutamate- MSG( usually used in Asian food for enhancing flavour) in the Asian take-away food, especially in Chinese take-away food would damage human being's eyes sight.
The reserchers used the rats to proof that. If the rats were fed by lots of MSG in their food for six months, the high risk for the rats' eyes damaged by MSG. So it is more risky for our eyes' sight if we eat more Chinese take-away food.

All in all, it is wise for us that we should aviod to eat hot chips and Asian take-away food as possible as we can, and try to have a healthy diet for our long-term health.

EDUCATION IN CHINA

Education in China is normally divided into three stages, primary, secondary and tertiary education. Primary school is the first and essential level education for any eligible child. There are two stages in the secondary education---Middle School and High School. In generally, tertiary education is any education after completing general high school. This includes universities and all kinds of colleges.

School is compulsory from the ages of six to fourteen, which means children should get education from year 1 till the end of the Middle School. Students who want to continue studying in universities should complete High School’s education. But if not, the students can choose some Vocational High Schools to study after Middle School. Tertiary education is not compulsory, but most of Chinese parents hope their children can get degrees as high as possible, because many Chinese people believe that--- the higher education, the better life in the future.

Primary education
In China, children go to Primary School when they are six years old. From Year1 to Year 6, they have to study Chinese, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Music, Drawing and Sports. Students have different teachers to teach their different subjects. There is lots of homework for students even in Primary School.

Secondary education (includes 3-year Middle School, 3-year High School)
Children start Middle School when they are twelve years old. There are two stages in here, each stage is three years, a total of six years. First three years is called Middle School, and the second three years is called High School. Students should have to complete three years education in the Middle School. So from Year 1 in Primary School till the end of Year Three in the Middle School, children have “Nine Years Education” on duty, which is free and compulsory education supported by the Chinese government.
After that, students usually have two choices. One is— to continue studying in High School. After that they try to get the qualification to enter into the university. Students have to get a good enough score from a very important exam which is hold by Chinese Education Department every year. The other choice is ---to study in Vocational High School. Students can study some vocational courses for their future career in these vocational schools.

Tertiary Education
There are lots of colleges and universities within in China. There are many subjects and majors you can choose to study. Such as Economics, Computing, Business, Medicine, Finance, History, Arts, etc. The tuition is very different from different colleges or universities. But no doubt, it has been became higher in the recent years.
Nowadays, more and more Chinese parents send their children to study overseas. Some English language countries are very popular for them, such as, U.S.A., UK, Australia and Canada.

The Rocks

When you visit the Sydney, one of the most attractive places you shouldn't miss it--The Rocks! The Rocks is famouse for its histrical value because this is the first European settlement. The oldest buliding--Cadman's Cottage in Sydney and the oldest street--Geroge Street in Australia, some interesting museums, etc. all of amazing buildings and places in the Rocks.

I am going to visit the Cadman's Cottage and Susannah Place.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a very good activity which calls for people to switch off any electrical things, such as, lights, TV, computer, etc. during 7:30pm to 8:30pm on March 31 (Saturday). This action aims to reduce greenhouse effection in Sydney, but also hope more and more relize that they can do something easily and protect our enviroment.
I supposed that's a very good idea. I am going to join this action during the special time mentioned. Now more and more people are ware of our enviorment are getting worse and worse due to our human being so greed behaviors. Everyone who lives on the earth should have responsibility to protect our earth villege, we can do some little things from our daily life, such as, instead of driving car, we can try to take the public transportation; try to not use plastic bags as much as possible; save water-take a shorter shower, fix your leaking taps, etc.

Well, we learn a sentence from Marion--Prevention is better than the cure. Maybe some people watched the Hollywood movie--The Day After Tomorrow, in fact, the things would be happened possible if the Global Warming has been continuting. So everybody should do something about stopping Global Warming, Greenhouse effection, etc. from now on from any little or small or simple thing.
